How we got started

Bushnell House Retreat

Tangible Mind began as a quiet experiment. It was born from a belief in the transformative power of creativity and the importance of keeping technology human.

It emerged around kitchen tables and on long walks with collaborators, during a moment when so many of us were reckoning with isolation, disconnection, and a profound search for meaning.

“We are neural beings. Our brains take their input from the rest of our bodies… Our bodies structure the way we think.”

Strategy Session

Tangible Mind hosted a strategy session with Toni Kokenis, TA for Marshall Ganz at Harvard Kennedy School, to deepen our work at the intersection of storytelling, leadership, and movement-building. The session brought together the founding team as artists, organizers, and educators to explore public narrative and relational organizing.

Through this session, we refined our theory of change and began mapping a leadership development framework rooted in the embodied experience of individuals and communities. Ganz and Kokenis’s methods offered generative critique and strategic clarity that continue to shape how we think about narrative, civil society, and identity.

Their wisdom affirmed our core belief: that the stories we tell about who we are, what we’ve faced, and why we act are central to how we create change.

Thinking doesn’t just happen in the brain—it extends into our bodies, environments, and interactions with others.

“The movements of our hands, the rhythms of our breathing, and even the postures we assume can shape the quality and content of our thoughts.”
